The Greek philosophers of the Academy (Old and New) Socrates, Plato and Aristotle understood the soul (psyche (ψυχή)) was crowned by the mind and its logical abilities to guide actions beyond chance and circumstance, they argued that the exercise of this “gift” was the most divine of human actions. At his defense trial, Socrates said that his teachings could be summarised as a guide to excel in matters of the soul since all other aspects of life depend on such excellence.
